Happy Monday!
Each Monday I would like to take some time to get to know some of our favorite authors. My hope is that this will help readers connect with the authors.
Today I would like to introduce you to: Connilyn Cossette!
Connilyn’s books were some of the first Biblical fiction books that I have ever read. Her newest series is some of my favorites!
Author bio:
Connilyn Cossette is a Christy Award and Carol Award winning author whose books have been found on both ECPA and CBA bestseller lists. When she is not engulfed in the happy chaos of homeschooling two teenagers, devouring books whole, or avoiding housework, she can be found digging into the rich ancient world of the Bible to discover gems of grace that point to Jesus and weaving them into an immersive fiction experience. Although she and her husband have lived all over the country in their twenty-plus years of marriage, they currently call a little town south of Dallas, Texas their home. To help us get to know her, I have given her some questions and here are her responses:
Q: How long have you been writing?
A: I started writing in about 2010 or so, when my kids were really little and I wrote during naptimes or after bedtime. I didn’t really tell anyone, even my husband, that I was writing a book until I was well into Counted with the Stars and didn’t take myself seriously with it all until a couple of years later. I’m still pinching myself that anyone wants to read the crazy stuff that comes out of my head 😉
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: I am working on a third book for the Ordinary Women of the Bible series for Guideposts Fiction, and then as soon as I finish that up I’ll be working on my new series from Bethany House and I can’t wait to dig in!
Q: What are some of your writing must haves? (Drink, snack, supplies, etc.)
A: Silence. I need my noise-cancelling headphones to work without distraction. And with two homeschooled teens around 24/7 I NEED a way to minimize noise. I also handwrite my first drafts now so I need my favorite comfy pen and my Focus Notes notebook so I can let my imagination do it’s thing without encumbrance.
Q: What is your favorite time period to write about? Or read about?
A: Well of course I really enjoy Biblical times since that’s my specialty and I am focused on the Old Testament right now because that’s where I am finding the most inspiration and because I believe that we Christians must understand the historical context of the Old Testament in order to understand the New Testament fully. As for what I read, I’m not super picky with regard to time periods, I’ll read anything that piques my interest and is written well.
Q: What are some of your favorite books?
A: I love the entire Lowlands of Scotland series by Liz Curtis Higgs, as well as her other Scottish books. They were a huge inspiration for me to start writing and I’ve read them multiple times (which I don’t normally do).
Q: If you could spend a day with one fictional character, who would you pick and what would you do?
A: Hands down, Aslan. And I’d do whatever he wanted me to do, because he’d not a tame Lion, you know 😉
I have saved my favorite question for last!
Q: What would you like readers to take away from your books?
A: Mostly I want readers to get hungry for the Word and to get curious about the Old Testament in particular. If just one person puts my book down and picks up the Bible to know more about Yahweh, then I will have done my job.

About the book:
Ten years ago Lukio fled Kiryat-Yearim, where he’d been adopted by the Levite family who guarded the Ark of the Covenant. Feeling betrayed by everyone, he returned to his birthplace in Philistia to become a famous fighter. Now the champion of Ashdod, Lukio has achieved every goal with the help of his ruthless cousin. But just as he is set to claim the biggest prize of all, the daughter of the king, his past collides with his present in the form of Shoshana.
After a heartbreaking end to her secret friendship with Lukio, Shoshana thought to never see the boy with the dual-colored eyes and the troubled soul again. But when she is captured in a Philistine raid and enslaved
in Ashdod, she is surprised to find that the brutal fighter known as Demon-Eyes is Lukio himself.
With explosive secrets and unbreakable vows standing between them, finding a way to freedom for both may cost them everything.
