Happy Monday!
Each Monday I would like to take some time to get to know some of our favorite authors. My hope is that this will help readers connect with the authors.
Today I would like to introduce you to: Darlene L. Turner!
I had the opportunity to meet Darlene at CFRR in 2019. She and the lovely group of ladies she was with invited me to join them. I was there by myself and I’m an introvert. It was so kind of them to let me join them! I’ve also enjoyed her books since then!
Author bio:
Darlene L. Turner’s love of suspense began when she read her first Nancy Drew book. She’s turned that passion into her writing and believes readers will be captured by her plots, inspired by her strong characters, and moved by her inspirational message.
Darlene won the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense twice and an ACFW Genesis award. She’s represented by Tamela Hancock Murray of the Steve Laube Agency. Her debut book, Border Breach, released in April, 2020 with Love Inspired Suspense. She has two books releasing in 2021: Abducted in Alaska (March) and Lethal Cover-Up (August).
Darlene met her husband Jeff at the turtle races in Ontario, Canada. She loves flavored coffee and plaid shirts. You can connect with Darlene at www.darlenelturner.com where there’s suspense beyond borders.
To help us get to know her, I have given her some questions and here are her responses:
Q: How long have you been writing?
A: When I was young, I loved to read Nancy Drew, so I started writing my own version – the “Mindy Dobson” series. I wish I’d kept them as it would be fun to go back and read it (and laugh). This was when my first writing “spark” started. However, I didn’t pick up my pen again until my late twenties. Then more seriously about ten years ago.
Q: What are you currently working on?
A: I’m working on book four in the Border Patrol series. This one is about the Canadian witness protection program. It follows a border patrol agent and her daughter trying to survive in the program. Her protector is her deceased husband’s estranged brother.
Q: What are some of your writing must haves? (Drink, snack, supplies, etc.)
A: Coffee! Sometimes chocolate. Colored pens. Notepads everywhere!
Q: What is your favorite time period to write about? Or read about?
A: Contemporary. I do like to read historical too though.
Q: What are some of your favorite books?
A: Ted Dekker’s Circle Series. Steven James’ Patrick Bower series.
Q: If you could spend a day with one fictional character, who would you pick and what would you do?
A: Great question! I would have to say Nancy Drew from days of old. It would be fun to solve a case with her. Although, I’m not sure two redheads together is a good idea. Bahaha!
I have saved my favorite question for last!
Q: What would you like readers to take away from your books?
A: My stories always deal with everyday struggles we face. It’s my hope that readers will be captured by the action-packed plot, inspired by the characters, and moved by the inspirational message.
