Meet The Author Monday – Carolyn Miller (Giveaway)

Each Monday I would like to take some time to get to know some of our favorite authors. My hope is that this will help readers connect with the authors.

Today I would like to introduce you to: Carolyn Miller!

Carolyn writes some of the best Regency stories! Reading on of her books is like reading a Jane Austen novel!

Author bio:

Carolyn Miller lives in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia, with her husband and four children. Together with her husband she has pastored a church for ten years, and worked as a public high school English and Learning and Support teacher.

A longtime lover of romance, especially that of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer’s Regency era, Carolyn holds a BA in English Literature, and loves drawing readers into fictional worlds that show the truth of God’s grace in our lives. Her Regency novels include The Elusive Miss Ellison, The Captivating Lady Charlotte, The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey, Winning Miss Winthrop, Miss Serena’s Secret, The Making of Mrs. Hale, A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh, Underestimating Miss Cecilia, and Misleading Miss Verity, all available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Book Depository, Koorong, etc.

 

To help us get to know her, I have given her some questions and here are her responses:

 

Q: How long have you been writing?

A: I started writing back in 2010, when I watched the closing ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics and wanted to know the story about two of the winter athletes I saw entering the stadium holding hands there. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t find out – so I made it up! That was my first contemporary story, then I wrote a few more, before having a go at a Pride and Prejudice-like story, which became my first historical, and first book to be published, The Elusive Miss Ellison.

 

Q: What are you currently working on?

A: I’m about to dive into edits for the first book in my new series, which at this stage is called On the Shores of Darkness, book 1 in The Wallflowers series. I have been in contemporary land recently, focused on polishing my next book in my first contemporary series which is part of The Independence Islands novella collection, so it’s good to shift my headspace back to Regency land (I find it keeps me fresh).

 

Q: What is your favorite time period to write about? Or read about?

A: I obviously love writing and reading historical fiction, especially that set in the Regency period in England. Some of my other fave historical authors include Roseanna White & Carrie Turansky (honestly, there are so many to name). But I also really enjoy contemporary writing, especially when it’s set in places I’d like to visit. Some of my fave inspirational contemporary authors include Kara Isaac, Susan Tuttle, Courtney Walsh, Angela Ruth Strong, and Susan May Warren. I prefer to read and write stories that
wrestle with some of the deeper things of life, cushioned with romance and a great setting – and humor! Those types of books are my cup of tea.

 

Q: What are some of your favorite books?

A: I LOVE books by Georgette Heyer, including The Nonesuch, Arabella, Frederica; I love Jane Austen’s Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice; and as a redhead, I’m very partial to Anne of Green Gables and The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery. I’m currently reading The Clockmakers Daughter by Kate Morton, who is a phenomenal Aussie author, and I love books by Becky Wade, especially My Stubborn Heart and Stay With Me.

 

I have saved my favorite question for last!

Q: What would you like readers to take away from your books?

A: I really want readers to finish my books with a smile, a renewed sense of hope, and a desire to lean in and trust God a little more with their circumstances. I hope people are entertained, but I pray people’s hearts are touched – and I’ve been so encouraged by the readers who write to tell me exactly that!

About the book:

Love hurts, or so the songs say, so who wants it?
